Watches have transitioned from time pieces to fashion accessories. Similar to those whose who collect sneakers or caps, watches are more about fashion than function. I don't get it. Then again, it is not my money.

But I am one of those fucking losers who wears watches. The watch my dad bought for me and the watch I bought for him. Oh and I have a smartphone FFS.

The watch is more of a fashion statement. Most likely something that you know very little about. That being said I have worn any of my watches in years. I will eventually sell them. They are worth a shit ton of money. They look nice in their display case and they get serviced every year but that is about it.

Personally I love the mechanics of it. An automatic watch made only with springs and gears that can keep time, and you having to do very little to maintain it just fascinates me. I could go on and on about how it does it but I digress.

I would suggest for anyone to go to Yorkdale and look at any high end watch that has a display back (its a sapphire back so you can see the mechanism). If you're not sure go to the Omega store and ask for the Planet Ocean or even better the Omega '57 (which may be my next watch). Its a marvel to look at.

If you like watches but don't want to spend that much money there are lots of good quality less expensive ones. Don't go to fossil or designer brand names, they're all made by Timex. You can spend a few hundered on a Hamilton or Seiko and get a great watch for your money. I have lots of suggestions if you're interested.

I have a few other watches myself. Omega Planet Ocean, Panerai Luminor GMT, Tag Heuer and a few less expensive ones that I bought when I was younger.

For Deyannis, I had a chance to buy an older Ploprof (don't remember the year) downtown but it was just to much to justify. They sold it about a week later.

Meh, They just take up space now. I still have my Tiffany Coupe Resonator, Omega Constellation, Omega Speedmaster Mark II, I think that the Patek Philippe Watch Twenty is there somewhere and quit a few antique railroad watches. The Railroad watches by far the best. Extremely accurate time. There are all kinds of cheap throw away watches that people just wear as a fashion accessory and toss it out when it breaks.

I’m in agreement with all you wrote. That Omega store at Yorkdale didn’t have the Omega ‘57 when I went last week. Only truly sophisticated human beings understand the watch fascination.

And trust me fellas: you’re miserable in your marriages/relationships and subsequent divorces because the culture taught her to assess a man on name brand clothes (making sure to check he had brown pointed shoes and matching belt) and his height. Me? I purposely - and always - mismatch my shoes with the belt and I wear loose shirts. Why? A decent collection has specific pieces that tend to be very unique (especially as a whole). If you shared this elsewhere, whether online, with your tech, or your best friend, you have just identified yourself. Do I know who you are? No. Does someone else? Maybe, depending on how well you have safeguarded your privacy.

When you compare this to there being no upside, it is a dumb thing to do.
