I thought I was the only one, I absolutely hate being fawned over in LOS, I even find it uncomfortable being in the same room whilst the cleaners are cleaning.
I do prefer being called mate rather then sir by service staff.
But service for me in OZ is typically curt, not unfriendly or hostile but very to the point. Very few checkout chicks make conversation these days, for the most part I used to get comments about my hairstyle... until I shaved it off. Aussie services is a bit more personal and a lot less formal.
