This is interesting, because we have the two extreme views represented by VBB and Rev. My personal view and what I feel comfortable with leans more toward one than the other, but aside from the fact I'm part of the membership which as a whole keeps things balanced, that's besides the point.

The problem with the guidelines is that they are just that; guidelines. As you know there are different bylaws within different regions, but it's not that simple, because dynamics are different within individual spas. For some spas the more "inviting" they seem in reviews, the better, and at little or no cost to their security. Maybe, in a way, they too wish to push the limits as much as they are able.

What Rev is trying to do here is draw a straight line. As a moderator, I try to walk a path between the two extreme views represented, but it is anything but linear and it may not be perfect. When we have more than one groups interest at stake it just isn't black and white.

No MP owner wants bylaw printing out reviews and waving them in their face and possibly, as a result, closing them down for a period of time or not have their license renewed. Any MP who has a specific issue knows where we are and as flyndragon implied I think we are willing to accommodate any concerns within reason.

I don't think there is much room for ego and personal opinions when moderating, otherwise it's not truly [unbias] moderating. It is the core posters of the board that help to influence what is acceptable and to a degree moderation reflects that, but moderation also shapes what is acceptable. So we have a cycle.

In order for massageplanet.net to exist and thrive we have to look at the overall picture and hopefully in the end nobody gets hurt.

I find it interesting that a well known MPA on this board "voted" for VBB as writing some of the most interesting reviews. [update : RS's perspective]

With regard to massageplanet.net's reputation, there used to be another board which many MPAs had a certain disdain for and compared to them we were almost seen as the "good guys", but in the end massageplanet.net is an entity in itself. Sure, some MPAs just dislike massageplanet.net as a whole, but at the risk of stating the obvious they can benefit from massageplanet.net as well. For any MPA who really doesn't want to be reviewed they can put in a request for a no review policy.

It seems that we have become focused on the damage massageplanet.net may do to MPs, but initially the concern included the MPAs. As hobbyists in the past we have been part of some really dumb shit. A perfect example would be the DFK/DATY lists of a few years back, which MPAs were aware of and felt some pressure because of them. However those lists are just a magnified manifestation of what review boards are about. From the view of an MPA, as long as we share information above or below board in detail there is going to be a degree of resentment from some of them to varying degrees. It could be said that it's just one of the trade offs in being an MPA, but although I do believe review boards help the industry to a large degree it doesn't negate from these negative aspects perceived or real.

As I alluded to earlier, I don't think it has much to do with massageplanet.nets "reputation", but hobbyists as a whole. Some MPAs have a preconceived general notion of [so called] hobbyists ( we expect more, higher standard etc ) It's one thing to test the waters as to where we can get with an MPA as individuals, but when we share that info, we create a higher expectation from the majority. This is created by hobbyists as a whole, but being massageplanet.netites and with massageplanet.net being the most well known and largest board we get stuck with the label. Does this sound self important or elitist ; maybe ...

Just a comment on sharing our handles with MPAs. Reviewers gain a certain positive status within massageplanet.net, but outside of massageplanet.net that status can change to being negative, so to assume that an MPA would be impressed is pretty silly, although in some cases they may be. Being naive and open about hobbying, in the beginning, I used to share my handle on occasion, and no doubt from "socialising" outside of massageplanet.net within our circle some people know me. There are many reasons why I no longer review, but one advantage is that a lot of the crap associated with being a reviewer, like the situation Rev has mentioned, the MPA figuring out who I am etc. is no longer much of an issue.

I think this board has reached an all time low.

When Mods supports a member whose obvious motivation is to change the way reviews are being written and decide to jump on his bandwagon instead of taking the role that they are ultimately responsible.

I don't want any Mods on my bandwagon, they shouldn't be there. They should be impartial and abide by a set of standards.

I have been here for around a year. In that time I have become a prominent reviewer. That is what I do and that is what I encourage others to do. I have always expressed a positive outlook.

I am seriously going to think over a few things.

massageplanet.net loses and members lose.

You may not hear from me for a while on massageplanet.net, but for those that know where to find me you are free to PM.

You may take whatever meaning you want from this, but remember I am my own man, I do not back down and I walk away whenever I want ... and to those that think otherwise ... Fuck Off !!!

If you are referring to the mpa I mentioned earlier I don't believe my handle was revealed. Normally I would assume it was in such a situation but she and I had a history of sorts prior and a certain level of familiarity. Had she known it was me she would not likely have been uncomfortable. In fact I have reason to believe that she still does not know. Unless of course she has been following this thread. She told me at the time she was told I was from massageplanet.net but not my id.

There are a number of MP's around the city that know my id. Mostly because of parties I've attended. And a number more because of one certain attendant that thought it was a cool thing to announce to the girls I had been seeing regularly at the time.

I think you are taking things a little bit too seriously. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. A few of your reviews have been mildly edited but then again so has just about everyone else's.

The goal is to provide information without crossing a line where there is just plain too much information. It's true that sometimes we let you get away with a little more because the reviews are often well written.

The same cant be said for joe blow who just gives a detailed breakdown of activities that occured and in the process gave out too much information. For example, lets say you got a bj from one of the MPA's. Dont laugh, it happens. You know very well that if you post that information then the place is going to get a lot of attention and most likely its going to be negative.

This is what Rev is basically trying to say. I dont think he is condemning you per se, I think you are just taking it a little too personal.

That being said, if you choose not to continue to post reviews, thats your own perogative. We cant force you to continue, we can only say that you will be missed.

VBBActually I did give it some thought, but Rev's implication was that he knows I tend to muse/bemuse over such things. It's not a case of finding an absolute answer, because it depends on how you define "ego" and "enlightenment". I took his post as it was meant, which was a humorous nudge toward me and responded with tongue firmly in cheek. In the end it doesn't matter whether we define it in terms of Freudian, spiritual, universal oneness, self, transcendental objectivity or otherwise. It depends on perception and motive and can be argued to suit as we wish.

Many moons ago on another board, I had the experience of battling with Rev. He's a relentless SOB when he's passionate about something and sometimes I get caught up in a narrow perspective just for the sake of driving that point home and being right. That is how I initially got to know Rev.

I'm not sure whether you mean yourself or Rev with regard to motivation being to change the way reviews are written - it seems like yourself, but it could be either. I'm not gonna get into whose motivation lies where. However, part of the problem here is that a mod will and I believe should define his own role to a degree. What that role might be to the individual and within the structure is somewhat of a continuum.

Mods are also members, but in the context you've stated it's not a case of whose bandwagon or boat they travel in, but the viewpoints they uphold when the moderation team needs to reach some consensus on standards. I've always thought that as members our input is just as valid.

For the simple fact that it has been brought to attention. It does appear that some reviews have slipped by that should have been edited. Aside from that, you know my views as a mod on this. Moderation isn't always perfect, but this discussion brings the issue to light. The role of a moderator of any board or 'net group is to follow the guidelines set by the board. It's not up to me, but the consensus of the moderating "team" and the owner has the [first and] last word, if need be.

Absolutely, VBB. However, I strongly believe in discretion. Discretion and change can coexist.

Obviously I see your point, but it's not like when you pay for any other service due to the human dynamics involved. As we all know, even if one were to relay the session play by play it gives a general idea of what may happen, but in the end what will happen is only answered when the individual client engages in the experience with the MPA in question. It just seems to me that being the astute folk that we are we should be perceptive enough to read between the lines. Some of us may be newbies to the board, but none of us are newbies to life.

You gotta know I agree with this outlook full heartedly. Just the mention of the words "overall picture" makes me giddy & moist : )


Unless I haven't been clear which is entirely possible, what you are supporting, Lover, has been my part of my contention since the beginning. I do believe his contributions to the board to be of value and would like to see him and others continue to contribute. I wouldn't bother with this topic otherwise, because Rev has more than competently fended for the "opposing" extreme.

Which brings us back to square one ...



Ultimately it would be cool, if we could reach a compromise and work together. I detest the notion of "us vs them" ; newbies vs vets, mods vs members, MP's vs hobbyists etc etc. However, in the end the different schools of thought usually do align toward the good of all one way or another.

I don't think anyone would take pleasure in hacking chunks out of something that someone took the time to compose and share. Except maybe that sadistic bastard, Frid : )

The majority of members, including VBB do not contest edits of their reviews/ posts and understand that moderating is a "job". Mods don't have to inform a member when an edit is made, but do it out of a courtesy. However there are many times when a member is not informed.

As for egos; we all have them and this thread wouldn't exist if not driven by ego. It's more a question of personal ethics and our different vantage points.

I suggest you go back and look as well. My original post in this thread was a reply to the comments and questions of kissingdevil. I didn't name you or anyone else. Shortly after I posted what I thought the guidlines should be. Again my opinion. You chose to get into a debate with me and here we are. I'm still stating opinions calmly and you are taking things way too personal and threatening to take your ball and play in another yard.



The bylaw problems HFH had may have been in 2001 and they may not be as much of a problem now but that doesn't mean it isn't happening now at other places or won't happen again, even at HFH or IT or any other place. If it happened once it can and likely will happen again. Believing otherwise is foolish.



I'm not skirting the issue VBB I'm just not giving the answers that you have formulated in your head. My motives have little to do with whatever notions are floating around up there. I've stated enough times already what my concerns are and what I believe is the proper path that should be followed. And as I stated many times already the moderators will decide. I refrained from posting yesterday so not to 'jump on the bandwagon' or to 'gang' up on VBB. My timing is not the best but needed time to collect thoughts, instead of posting first emotional response rather a rational thought. But I have problem with VBB's following statement.



Fine if you wish to speed or 'push the limit', I too love to drive fast and taking it to the 'limit' - extreme sports that is (not hobbying). But one should do so, only when they do not bring harm to others.

So if you speed and the only person to get hurt is yourself (ignoring the fact of who take cares of the you when injuried). But here you are playing with other people's lives, MPAs and MPs, they are along for the ride. In real life, I speed only when safe to, with no passengers and not bring harm to other motorist. As stated before when MP owner or MPA get caught, they can be denied license and have a record. Some MPA have heavy financial burdens.

By overly explicit of activity in the room, one draws heat, paint a bulleye to the MP. I'm careful to stay away from such places as I don't want to be 'found in' or want anyone I know to be in a paddy wagon or holding cell. I already pointed out First Palace was indirect victim of this popularity and the other was Dirty LE pieced together info from here. For the record, VBB not involved in review of these places. If one chose to continue the 'I can do what I please' attitude, they are putting the rest of us in "harm's way".

True, the MP & LE cat and mouse game will continue thru the ages without massageplanet.net. But I repeat, Goodtime do not want to be a snitch to give LE easy tips.

True, MPA know the risk and reward but few want the over explicit details to attract LE. Otherwise, why would MP and MPA bother to pay $ and go thru hassles of health checks, by-law requirement to be licensed. They may as well save some $ and trouble, take chances with bylaw inspection or bust. The other is YMMV factor that few sh*theads become abusive when they don't get the same service. Put yourself in MPA's shoes, pressured to provide certain personal service to hostile or foul odor creeps using massageplanet.net info as bargaining tool, "you gave ... to Wantextra . why not me?".

Most of these issues weren't directed at VBB except for the driving reference. But VBB you feel personally under-attack, try having guys gang up critizing the smell of your snatch. Conventional logic, when one dish it out they should be prepare to take it...If only MPA are review us, what tales that would be..
