Ok. Did not intend to appear as negative as I came across. And the “dry pie incident” might just be explained by the fact that I craved a succulent burger at the time. Turned out to be a disappointment, that’s all.

Still, not so sure that this type of establishment is a recipe for success given the location and… well, other factors. Guess time will tell.

It does need to attract long-time dwellers in order to survive though, but I cannot see any obvious reasons why I should return on a frequent basis. Perhaps the occasional burger, but that would be a secondary / supplementary source of income for this type of place. And a "secondary investment" for me. Then again, I am but one out of many.

Well for someone who has lived in phuket and lives in the village, IMO this is such a load of crap, they couldn't give a flying fick about respect and it is all about face........agree they will get bored but that's only because they are not with their friends and family but having to live with you in a place they don't want to be

Sorry if this sounds bad but given the choice do u honestly think they want to be where they are with you............I have seen it and heard it, even heard it being referred when they go and live with their husband or BF in a foreign country that it's work, then my wife has to correct herself when she says it to me when referring to her friends abroad (and i doubt im an exception, money is no 1 right?)

I tried to have a friendly conversation with Danny about it one night but got a wave of the hand and "don't talk to me about it...talk to Rick" so i won't be offering any further advice

last night's opening was very flat....the food was poor, virtually non-existent and consisted of a few cold ribs, some chicken drumsticks in cold gravy (more like aspic) and some edible ham...that was at 8.30pm so to be fair it may have been better earlier (it was due to open at 7.30pm)

loads of people left when the band came on as it was too loud inside...and they didn't need the marquee as all could have been accommodated inside or on the pavement

I don't mean to be overly critical of the place but to me its a pretty lacklustre experience.....and it could be so much better with a bit of effort...anyway that's my say on it until the food arrives...but if last night's effort was representative of what is to come I hold little hope for it either...they really missed a good chance to put out the sort of food they will be offering

I honestly wish them well and I am sure they will find a level of clientele which will bring in money...its just that it falls into the cracks for me...its not a place where i can party hard with some good time gals....nor is it (so far) a place where I can get good food.....if they ever get a good burger sorted out it just may start to make sense

poor old danny, i talked to him last time he was back in aus and i didn't even recognize him at first meeting, he looked like he had aged 15 years.

Paul you know the answer I don't need to tell you, there are exceptions but you know only too well, you just saw it in the village you were at..........yes they will work but preferably beside their family and friends..........and i'm afraid to say the culture in Thailand is far removed from the west...........but keeping a GF or wife in Phuket, if you get down to the brass tacks they dont want to be there, haven't met or know many who do other than the ultra hard core.........same in foreign countries Thailand all the way!!!

I don't expect this to go down well with anyone but I don't say it lightly and I'm included in the equation and the statement

If a group of lads were going there for a beer then I would eforum.xxx along, other than that, it's just another bar and showing predominantly Australian Sports on the telly etc! No interest to me to be honest.

If I wanted a bar where I am not going to be pestered for drinks, again, worth popping along, but my 'being pestered for drinks' days in Kamalalala are long over.

Maybe Wi-Fi access as other bars are doing. Beergarden etc - I turned my CAT access off while I was there, so used the Oh-La-La set up for the price of a cup of cappuchino for my last minute e-tickets.

I hope it is a success and the lads start to re-coup some of their outlay on the place as I guess the swimming pool business..............Yes, some double entendres...........is keeping it afloat and they sunk quite a bit of money into it.......Tch! 55555

haha. well the beetroot that they use on burgers here in aus is out of a tin and it is just a thin round slice that covers the burger nicely.

a true aussie burger is a burger with "the lot" which usually consists of: meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, beetroot, egg, bacon and bbq sauce...now thats a burger!! haha

Life is full of contradictions and its the fluidity of it that makes it exciting.

Nobody mentioned being forced, and as for Tian, yes, she likes the business and as I deal with the technology side she is more interested in building a good coffee shop, hardly a 'western' exclsive business.

Yes too, she would be happier making less money and having the business near her village.

Return of capital is a daft concept in Thailand mate!!! Ive said before that when you invest say goodbye to the cash coz there is no way you're getting it back.

I see the capital as an investment in her future and if she makes it then thats all the return I would expect.

I have done this type of 'investment' twice before and on both occasions the girls have done an excellent job, both still making money and both back where they are comfortable, in their provinces.

Maybe I've been lucky.

As for exceptions, yes there are many, thats why so many farangs keep looking but, theres an awful lot more to whom a farang is just an ATM.

This little shop has opened my eyes no end in the last 3 months, even I have been shocked.

A shallow understanding of a TG's wants needs and desires is as deep as most of us will ever get, lets not start fooling ourselves that because we have been here a couple of years we are somehow experts on TG's, we are not, they are too complex, and they are women!?
